PM Modi announces new Indian Consulates in US, highlights bilateral ties

India has decided to open two new consulates in Boston and Los Angeles, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced at the packed Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New York, Long Island, while addressing the Indian diaspora on Sunday.
"Diversity is our greatest strength," the Prime Minister said at an event titled "Modi & US: Progress Together" as the thousands in the audience cheered him on.
Saluting the contributions of the Indian diaspora in the US, Mr Modi said it is the spirit of AI (America-India) that has taken bilateral ties between the two countries to a new high. He also spoke about how so many languages and religions flourished in the country and enriched it.
"When India speaks, the world listens... When I said that this was not an era of war, it resonated everywhere," he said, referring to his statement made in the Uzbek city of Samarkand two years ago to Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging him for a peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The Prime Minister said the day is not far when there will be "Made in India" electronic chips in the United States.
Pointing out that Indians had come to America from afar, Mr Modi said the depth of no ocean can separate the diaspora from India. He told the cheering audience that every world leader he has met has only praised the Indian diaspora living in their countries.
In his address, the Prime Minister also thanked US President Joe Biden for his hospitality at his residence in Wilmington, Delaware.
Talking about the Indian elections held this summer, Mr Modi said it was the largest ever democratic exercise in human history. He said the sheer scale of democracy is what fills Indians with pride.
The Prime Minister said people had trusted him with a third term in office and that therefore he had thrice the responsibility entrusted on him. He said he needs to work with thrice the strength and at thrice the pace in his third term in office, adding that the five petals of a flower with virtues like progressiveness, spirituality, humanity and prosperity are what will make a developed India.
Talking about the sacrifice of freedom fighters, many of whom died fighting the British rule, the Prime Minister said that he could not die for the country but has dedicated himself to its development. He said that he had travelled the length and breadth of the country previously when he was not a politician and had been able to understand the challenges facing the nation.
Mr Modi said every Indian was waiting for the day when the country can become the third largest economy in the world.
The Prime Minister mentioned the aspiration that is driving the youth of the country to greater achievements. He said the demand for expressways, high-speed trains and airports showed this aspiration. He spoke about the sharp rise in cities having Metros and airports in the past decade.
Mr Modi termed India the land of opportunities. He said India does not wait for opportunities but creates them, adding that 250 million Indians had been pulled out of poverty in the past decade.
Talking about the increased scale of manufacturing, the Prime Minister said that India had become the second-biggest manufacturer of mobile phones and that the country was now working on a Made in India 6G technology.
The PM also mentioned the great strides made in the field of clean energy, including solar energy. Speaking about the rich cultural heritage of India, he pointed out how the ancient Nalanda University had been revived now in modern times along with the "Nalanda spirit".
