Chinese leader Xi Jinping and newly-elected South Korean president Moon Jae-In agreed on Thursday that denuclearising North Korea is a “common goal” between the two neighbours, Moon’s office said.

In their first phone conversation, the two leaders “agreed that denuclearising the Korean peninsula is the two countries’ common goal,” Moon’s spokes’-man Yoon Young-Chan told reporters.

“Sanctions against North Korea are also a means to bring the North to the negotiating table aimed at eliminating its nuclear weapons,” Yoon told a briefing.
