China: Newborn flushed down hospital toilet, survives
The hospital staff heard the cries of a baby coming out of a sewer pipe and informed the authorities immediately.
Xingping, China: In an astonishing incident, a newborn girl was pulled out 'alive' from a sewer pipe after she was flushed down a hospital toilet in China, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
The hospital staff heard the cries of a baby coming out of a sewer pipe and informed the authorities immediately. Firefighters were rushed to the spot. The mother reportedly abandoned her in the bathroom of the hospital, before fleeing away.
Authorities said that the newborn was stuck inside the pipe in a manner that it was barely able to breathe and move. In order to provide some fresh air for the baby to breathe, the firefighters first broke the pipe with a hammer. It took around three hours for them to cut open the pipe and pull out the baby.
Covered in blood, the hospital staff said that the baby's condition was 'very critical'. The newborn cried throughout the rescue process which was 'disturbing' and made it difficult for the rescuers to do their work.
Investigations are on to trace the biological parents of the newborn baby.
Earlier in 2014, a new born baby was found inside a sewage pipe in a university in China. The baby was reportedly flushed down the university's toilet by her helpless student mother who wanted to hide her pregnancy from her family and friends.
