GST collection sees rise after two months

After falling for two straight months, the GST collection in December rose to Rs 86,703 crore.

As per the Centre's calculations, all the states put together should collect GST revenue of Rs 92,000 crore. But, only Rs 81,000 crore was realised, a deficit of Rs 9,000 crore.

New Delhi: After falling for two straight months, the GST collection in December rose to Rs 86,703 crore. The collection in November was Rs 80,808 crore. 

The highest  GST collections till date has been in July at Rs 95,000 crore when it was implemented. 

“The total revenue received under GST for the month of December 2017 (received in December/ January) has been Rs 86,703 crore till January  24,” said the finance ministry. The last date for filing of GSTR 3B return for the month of December 2017 was January 22, 2018.  

The ministry said that  one crore taxpayers have been registered under GST so far till January 24 of which 17.11 lakh  are composition  dealers who  must file returns every quarter.

Some 56.30 lakh GSTR 3B returns have been filed for the month of December till January 24.
