NEW DELHI: National security advisor Ajit Doval is travelling to Moscow this week, during which he will participate in the Brics grouping's NSAs conference. Reports indicated that Mr. Doval will visit Moscow on Tuesday and Wednesday and could also convey India's insights, ideas and suggestions on ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict during his talks with the Russian leadership.

New Delhi had earlier declared that it will offer all support for peaceful resolution of the conflict that has dragged on for more than two-and-a-half years between the two neighbours. The move comes ahead of the Brics summit that will be held next month in the Russian city of Kazan, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend. Mr Modi had earlier visited Moscow on a bilateral visit this July. He also visited Ukraine just last month.

Amid a renewed push for peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv to end the conflict, Russian President Vladimir Putin was recently quoted by reports as telling the Russian news agency TASS, "We (Russia) respect our friends and partners who, I believe, sincerely seek to resolve all issues surrounding this conflict, primarily China, Brazil and India. I constantly keep in touch with our colleagues on this issue.”

After his visit to Ukraine, the Prime Minister had spoken to the Russian President and had "shared insights" on his recent visit to Ukraine. During the conversation, Mr Modi had emphasised "the importance of dialogue and diplomacy as well as sincere and practical engagement between all stakeholders to achieve an abiding and peaceful resolution of the conflict."

After that phone call, Russia had stated that Mr Modi had informed Mr Putin "about his recent visit to Kyiv (the Ukrainian capital), emphasising his interest in contributing to a possible political and diplomatic settlement of the situation around Ukraine."

According to Moscow, Mr Putin had in that phone call outlined "key Russian approaches to ways to resolve the conflict".
