Former United States President Donald Trump was convicted in a hush money case just five months ahead of the elections. A 12-person jury found Trump guilty of 34 charges of falsifying business records.
Donald Trump has become the first former US president to be convicted of felony.
"Trump was accused of falsifying business records to reimburse his lawyer, Michael Cohen, for a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels on the eve of the 2016 election, when her claim to have had sex with him could have proved politically fatal," reported AFP.
If Trump is convicted of a felony, the next question that would arise is, can he run for president?
The answer is Yes.
According to CNN, the US constitution states a person can run for the president if he/she meets three requirements which are:
The person has to be a natural born citizen
The person has to be at least 35 years old
The person has to be a US resident for at least 14 years.
Donald Trump meets all the three requirements and therefore he can for the president.
Can Trump vote?
The Florida Division of Elections website says that a Florida resident with a felony conviction in another state is ineligible to vote in Florida “if the conviction would make the person ineligible to vote in the state where the person was convicted.” Trump is a Florida resident. He was a New York resident for most of his life but he changed his residency to Florida in 2019.
