Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party has faced a setback ahead of the national election expected next year as they lost the by-election to the Toronto-St Paul seat.
The Toronto- St Paul seat is considered a bastion of the Liberal Party, they have not lost an election in the constituency in the last 30 plus years.
The 49 percent votes of the Liberal Party in the constituency in the 2021 elections had gone down to 40 percent votes in the by-elections. The Conservative Party candidate with 42 percent vote share had won the Toronto-St Paul by-election, giving a shock to the ruling party.

After the loss, Justin Trudeau said that "it was not the result they expected," and asserted that he and the party will work hard to address voters' problems.
