Beijing: China has expressed its willingness to engage in dialogue with the United States following recent threats by former President Donald Trump to impose new tariffs on Chinese goods. The statement comes amid growing tensions between the two economic giants over trade practices, technology policies, and geopolitical issues.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Wang Wenbin, said that China was open to "constructive dialogue" with the U.S., emphasizing the importance of cooperation to ensure global economic stability. "China believes that both countries should seek common ground and manage differences through communication and negotiations," Wang stated during a press briefing.

The remarks come after Trump’s statements that he could introduce tariffs as high as 25% on Chinese imports if he were to regain the presidency in 2024. Trump’s comments have reignited fears of a new trade war between the two nations, following the trade disputes and tariffs that defined much of his administration's policies.

China, in response, has consistently opposed the use of tariffs as a tool for economic pressure, arguing that they harm global trade and disrupt supply chains. The Chinese government has also expressed concerns over the increasing restrictions on Chinese technology companies and the U.S.'s growing stance on limiting China's rise as a global tech leader.

Despite these tensions, both nations have shown interest in reviving negotiations. The Biden administration has yet to respond to Trump’s tariff threat but has also signaled a commitment to working with China on issues like climate change, trade imbalances, and security.

As the 2024 elections approach, the U.S.-China relationship will continue to be a focal point in global discussions on trade and diplomacy. China’s openness to dialogue marks an effort to stabilize relations, but challenges remain in resolving long-standing issues between the two powers.
