Hyderabad: To uplift the marriage and family culture of the country, China's Civil Affairs University has introduced a new undergraduate degree in "Marriage Services and Management." The program is set to begin in September and seeks to develop experts in marriage-related fields and cultures.

Zhao Honggang, vice president of the university told local media that the admission of the students will begin in September, and they will recruit 70 undergraduates across 12 provinces in 2024.
The degree will cover topics such as high-end wedding planning, family counseling, and matchmaking product development. The students in the field can get career opportunities in industry associations, matchmaking agencies, marriage and counseling organizations, and wedding service companies.
Marriage rates have consistently fallen in the country, in spite of the less strict birth control policies, reaching a record low in 2022.
Since 2016, the birth level has decreased by half, reaching a critically low point in 2023.
Concerns about financial stability, high cost of living, and job security are some of the factors that contribute to the drop in marriage among young people.
Due to a lack of job opportunities, rising costs, and a decline in consumer confidence brought on by the nation's economic downturn, young adults find it difficult to feel financially ready for marriage and parenthood.
Due to the falling marriage rates, china saw a drop in birth rates following which the program came into being.
