In a surprising incident, passengers aboard a flight were shaken after a man started shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’. The unexpected event miffed the passengers and created commotion on the flight, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

The video of the incident has been doing rounds on online platforms. The man was apparently calling the azaan (call for prayer), and his shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ was part of the ritual.

The man who uploaded the video said, “I was sleeping at the emergency exit when I woke up to his blaring calls of ‘Allahu Akbar’. I had to close my ears to get rid of the noise. I have seen people praying on flight, but have never testified such a situation.”

The seven-hour Manila bound Etihad flight routinely carries a large number of Muslim passengers and performing prayers aboard isn’t an unusual sight.

Other passengers who were on the flight said, “It was annoying. One should respect others’ space. We were all terrified by his calls.”

Passengers were also irked at the way the flight attendants handled the situation.
