Ankara: Footage of a heartbroken Turkish man shooting himself live on Facebook because his girlfriend had broken up with him, has gone viral.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Erdogan Ceren from Duzici, a town and district in Osmaniye Province of Turkey holds his shotgun to his chest while addressing the camera, and after one failed attempt, commits suicide.

The 22-year-old first tells Facebook viewers that he intends to end his life because his girlfriend ditched him.

Ceren might already have warned people around him that he intended to commit suicide, because he says to the camera, “No one believed when I said I will kill myself – so watch this.”

The shirtless man then turns a shotgun on himself and fires, but it does not go off.

However, he tries a second time after readjusting the camera…and the screen goes blank.

The video has been watched lakhs of times and shared widely as well.

After his family members heard the gunshot and hurried to check, Erdogen was taken to hospital but died, said reports.

Ceren had previously documented his distraught emotions online, posting a Facebook status saying 'feeling broken' along with the words, “Our love saga would be written, "Behold, the eyes would not cry, half of you is going to tell you now, my hands do without that side''.”

Last month he had also posted on Facebook: “And now he passed away in peace…….forgive me girl”, in perhaps an eerie reference to planning his own death.

Several fan and community pages have appeared on Facebook mourning the death of Ceren.

Turkish police have now launched an investigation into the incident.
