Tehran: After the aftermath of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh assassination in Tehran. Reports suggest that Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, utilised Iranian agents to carry out the operation.

According to Hebrew media, members of the elite Ansar al-Mahdi unit from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were allegedly recruited by Mossad to execute the assassination. Initial plans targeted Haniyeh during his visit for the funeral of then-Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in May, but these plans were aborted due to unforeseen complications.

Sources from Israel's Defence Minister’s office said that the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) are on high alert, prepared for potential retaliatory strikes from Iran and its allies. The IDF has reportedly fortified Israel’s southern and northern borders to thwart any retaliatory attempts from Hamas, Hezbollah, or the Houthis.

Arab media have reported that the assassination has sent shockwaves through the Iranian regime. The Iran’s intelligence agency has begun a crackdown on those allegedly involved in facilitating Mossad’s operation against the high-profile Hamas leader.
