China warns of 'consequences' to US, South Korea over military drill

Beijing: In violation of Security Council resolutions, Chinese government opposed the ballistic missile launches by North Korea, and raised concern over US missile system being deployed in South Korea, and warned that Washington and Seoul will bear the consequences.
While addressing press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said that the Chinese side has noted the move and the relevant Security Council resolutions are explicit about the North Korea's launches with ballistic missile technologies.
Noting that the ongoing military drills of the US and South Korea, Geng said, “Under the current circumstances, all relevant parties should exercise restraint and refrain from any action that may provoke each other and heighten tensions in the region”.
As for the issue of THAAD, Spokesperson said “We have been saying that we are firmly opposed to the deployment of THAAD by the US and the South Korea in the Seoul.
He further said, “We believe that the deployment disrupts strategic balance of the region, undermines strategic and security interests of countries in the region including China, and does harm to peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula”.
“We urge relevant parties to face squarely China's reasonable concerns, call off the deployment and avoid travelling further down the wrong path”, Geng said in statement.
