Peshawar: Trapped for three days, a woman and her two sons were on Thursday safely pulled out of the rubble of a house that had collapsed after a landslide hit a village in northwest Pakistan. Heavy rains over the weekend have killed over 92 people.

However, chances of finding the remaining trapped 23 villagers after Monday’s landslide swept away seven houses in Kandia village in Kohistan district are getting dimmer with each passing day, officials said.

During a search operation late on Wednesday night, rescue workers managed to extricate a woman named Razia and her two sons Asad and Gulzar from the rubble.

They have been shifted to Dasu Hospital and are in a serious condition.

According to National disaster management authorities, more than 1,200 houses have been damaged since April 2, with roads across the mountainous north blocked.

So far, five injured people and two dead bodies had been pulled from the rubble over the last two days.

Rescue workers with heavy machinery could not reach the site because of road closures and the remoteness of the area.
