Islamabad: Pakistan has decided to ask India to return ‘Dancing Girl’, a 4500-year-old statuette from Mohenjo-daro kept in New Delhi’s National Museum.

Jamal Shah, the director general of Pakistan National Council of Arts, said on Sunday that the purpose is “to protect the heritage”. He added that the demand would be raised under UNESCO conventions.

The development comes amid rising tension between India and Pakistan over the attack on an Indian army base in Uri and India’s country’s response to cross the LoC to target terror launch pads in PoK.

Shah said they would write to UNESCO, urging it to help secure the statuette. ‘Dancing Girl’ was recovered in 1926 from the ancient city Mohenjo-daro of the Indus Valley Civilisation in Sindh by British archaeologist Ernest Mackay.
