Pakistan-US strategic dialogue will to take place on February 29
This will be the third annual meeting since the government assumed office in 2013
Islamabad: The sixth round of ministerial level Pakistan-US Strategic Dialogue will be held in Washington on February 29.
Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, and US Secretary of State John Kerry will lead their respective sides. This will be the third annual meeting since the government assumed office in 2013, officials said.
The six segments of the strategic dialogue include cooperation in economy and finance, energy, education, science and technology, law enforcement and counter terrorism, security, strategic stability and non-proliferation and defence sectors.
Meanwhile, an inter-ministerial meeting in Islamabad has reviewed progress of the previous preparations for the upcoming strategic dialogue to further strengthen the partnership, with special focus being shed on expanding trade and investment cooperation.
The aforementioned meeting chaired by Sartaj Aziz was attended by Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal and Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to the US in October 2015 had provided necessary impetus and direction to the dialogue mechanism.
The upcoming meeting will further consolidate Pakistan’s bilateral ties with America, said an official.
