Islamabad: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s remarks against Western ‘feminist movement’ were deemed ‘anti-women’ and drew a social media backlash.
Speaking to a Pakistani television channel, Imran Khan had said that he disagreed with the Western ‘feminist movement’. Mr Khan claimed that the movement has contributed to ‘degenerating’ motherhood.
The Twitteratis perceived the comments as highly ‘irresponsible’ and criticised Mr Khan on his lack of knowledge of the ideology and the movement.
Mr Khan was accused of having lack of consideration for the gains - right to vote, run for office - of Women Suffrage Movement which also resulted in feminist movements across the globe demanding equal rights to life in a society. Commentators termed the remarks as a major disappointment.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan avoided a personal appearance before the Returning Officers (ROs) in connection with objections raised to his nomination papers for NA-131 (Lahore IX) and NA-53 (ICT II), as his lawyers tried to contest challenges to his candidature.
