Panama Papers: 'Have done nothing wrong ', says Nawaz Sharif

Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has sought suggestions from key members of his team to counter the Panama leaks allegations, and said he has always preferred values to power.

In a meeting held at the Prime Minister's House in Islamabad yesterday, The Nation quoted Sharif, as assuring his team that his family had done nothing wrong and added that 'our hands are clear'.

The Prime Minister, who invited the participants to suggest the ways to counter allegations after surfacing the Panama leaks, said they were vindicated in toughest accountability in the past and will do the same in future.

Sharif said the whole world is convinced of transparency in development projects by his government, adding that all decisions of national concerns were taken with deliberation with political forces.

The Prime Minister further said the government will restore the crumbling economy and eliminate faults in all departments, adding that those who stopped the road to progress and prosperity by creating instability failed in the past and will fail also in the future.

Rejecting the allegations of money laundering, he called for the establishment of an inquiry commission while claiming his children have legitimate businesses abroad.

The meeting, attended by federal ministers, advisers and special assistants, discussed in length the situation developed as a backlash of Panama leaks.

The recent developments follow Panama Papers revelations shrouding the Prime Minister's family among many other prominent political figures holding off-shore wealth.
