Islamabad: A Pakistani TV channel has made history by hiring a transgender news anchor. Marvia Malik, however, thinks the difficulties facing her community were far from over. “They are still faced with more than their fair share of hindrances,” she said in an interview.
Marvia also made headlines in the recent past as the first Trans model to walk the ramp during a fashion week.
Marvia was interviewed at Kohinoor News television channel three months ago and was hired the same day. “The life of a transgender is full of tremendous difficulties and they are all leading the same life and facing the same challenges,” she said.
After being abandoned by her family, she financed her higher education at Punjab Univer-sity by using the skills she acquired through a beautician course.
