At least eight people lost their lives after part of an outdoor roof collapsed at a train station in Novi Sad, Serbia, on Friday, according to Interior Minister Ivica Dacic. Two more individuals are hospitalised, with one in critical condition. Rescuers remain in contact with two people trapped beneath the debris as efforts involving over 80 personnel and heavy machinery continue.

The Blood Transfusion Institute in Novi Sad has called on residents to donate blood. The train station, which reopened in July after three years of renovations, still had ongoing construction work in some areas.

Prime Minister Milos Vucevic pledged a thorough investigation to hold those responsible for safety failures accountable, offering condolences to the victims' families. Serbia Railways clarified that the collapsed structure was not part of the recent renovations and promised updates from the investigation.
