Trump VP Mate’s wife is Telugu origin Usha Chilukuri
In 2010, she completed her M.Phil in Early Modern History from the University of Columbia, and completed her JD in Law from Yale Law School in 2013
Washington: Usha Chilukuri Vance, the wife of Senator JD Vance who was recently announced by Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump as his vice-presidential candidate, has her roots in India.
39-year-old JD Vance married a girl of Telugu origin. Usha Chilukuri, who worked as a legal clerk at the US Supreme Court and is now a successful legal associate with a private law firm in San Francisco, has her roots in Andhra Pradesh.
Her parents, who lived in Andhra Pradesh’s Chilakaluripeta, moved to the United States. Usha was born in the USA, and completed her graduation from Yale University in Bachelor’s of Arts with History as her majors.
In 2010, she completed her M.Phil in Early Modern History from the University of Columbia, and completed her JD in Law from Yale Law School in 2013. Usha, along with having experience as a legal clerk at the US Supreme Court, also has experience in working as a Legal Clerk with the US District Court of Eastern District of Kentucky and US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit for one year each.
She worked as legal associates with a number of law firms across the United States, some prominent ones being Williams & Connolly LLP, Levine Sullivan Koch & Schulz LLP and Kobre & Kim LLP. From 2019, she is working as a legal associate with Munger, Tolles and Olson LLP.
She clerked for Chief Justice John Roberts of the Supreme Court, as well as for Justice Brett Kavanaugh when Usha worked as a clerk in the Appeals Court for Columbia. Usha and JD Vance met at Yale Law School, when she was pursuing her education in Law, and got married in 2014. The couple has three children.
In Vance’s memoir “Hillbilly Elegy”, he wrote “She (Usha) seemed some sort of genetic anomaly, a combination of every positive quality a human being should have: bright, hardworking, tall, and beautiful.” He also said that she supported him several times when he wanted to quit.
Usha has been instrumental in Republican JD Vance’s political success, despite herself being registered as a Democrat. On “The Megyn Kelly Show” podcast in 2020, Vance said “Usha definitely brings me back to Earth a little bit, and if I maybe get a little bit too cocky or a little too proud, I just remind myself that she is way more accomplished than I am.”
