The Yemen Embassy denied reports claiming that President Al-Alimi ratified the death sentence for Indian nurse Nimisha Priya.

The Embassy of the Republic of Yemen has officially denied reports claiming that President Dr Rashid Al-Alimi ratified the death sentence for Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, who has been on death row in Yemen. In a statement issued on Monday, the Embassy clarified that the recent reports regarding the case of Nimisha Priya, currently incarcerated in Sanaa's Central Prison, were inaccurate.

Nimisha Priya, a Malayali nurse, was sentenced to death after being convicted in connection with a case that has drawn significant international attention. She had been working in Yemen for several years before her arrest. Despite the seriousness of the charges, the Embassy's statement emphasised that no such ratification of the death sentence has taken place as of yet.

The statement from the Yemen Embassy also assured that the case is still under legal proceedings, and further steps will be taken in accordance with Yemeni law. The Embassy emphasized its commitment to upholding the rights of foreign nationals and ensuring that due process is followed in legal matters.

This clarification comes in the wake of a wave of media reports and public concern surrounding Priya's situation. The case has sparked widespread protests and calls for her release, with human rights organizations and the Indian government urging Yemeni authorities to reconsider the sentence and ensure fair legal proceedings.

The Indian Embassy in Yemen has also been in constant communication with local authorities, advocating for Priya’s case and providing consular support. The Indian government has expressed its concern over the developments and is closely monitoring the situation.

The Yemeni Embassy's statement underscores the ongoing nature of the legal proceedings and assures that no final decision on the death sentence has yet been made.
