Apple iPhone Hits Record Sales in India

iPhone was the top-selling model in the US, urban China, India, the UK, France, Australia, and Japan during the December quarter

Apple had great results in several emerging markets and is particularly keen on India, said CEO Tim Cook during Apple’s Q1FY25 earnings call.

“We’re going to open four new stores there (in India). Also, the iPhone was the top-selling model in India for the quarter. And it’s the second-largest smartphone market in the world and the third largest for PCs and tablets, and so there’s a huge market. And we have a very modest share in these markets, and so I think there’s lots of upside there,” Tim Cook said.
iPhone was the top-selling model in the US, urban China, India, the UK, France, Australia, and Japan during the December quarter, Cook said as per a recent survey by Kantar.
Apple announced financial results for its fiscal 2025 first quarter that ended December 28, 2024. The tech giant posted quarterly revenue of $124.3 billion, up 4 percent year over year.
Counterpoint Research said Apple was ranked among the top five handset manufacturers for the first time in terms of volume in the December quarter, ended 2024 with the highest market value share.
Apple’s value share in 2024 was 23%, followed by Samsung at 22%. In terms of volume or number of units shipped, Vivo led the smartphone market in India with 19% share, according to Counterpoint data.
In the earnings call, Cook said that Apple is opening four new stores in India, including Bengaluru, Pune, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai. Currently, the company has two stores - BKC Store in Mumbai and Saket store in Delhi.
Apple CEO also said that Apple Intelligence will be rolled out in India this April along with other languages.
“We are working hard to take Apple Intelligence even further. In April, we’re bringing Apple Intelligence to more languages, including French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and simplified Chinese, as well as localized English to Singapore and India,” said Tim Cook.
