New cars, bikes to stir up sluggish market in January
PUNE: Despite the auto industry, world's fourth biggest market, facing bloodbath in the last 12 months, automakers have lined up at least a dozen new launches in January to excite the sluggish market and draw buyers to the showrooms.
This is apart from several launches planed at the Auto Expo show in February in New Delhi where over 50 automakers will showcase their new upcoming models and futuristic concept vehicles.
This month at least three electric vehicles, four all new car models and several two-wheelers would be launched.
Audi will launch its flagship SUV Q8 on January 15. This will be one of the four new car models to be launched this month and the fourth SUV from the Audi stable after Q3, Q5 and Q7 by the German giant. The SUV would be priced under Rs 2 crore.
South Korean car maker Hyundai will launch its Aura compact sedan on January 21. This model, which uses the Grand i10 Nios platform powered by petrol and diesel engines, will complement the Xcent and is expected to be priced under Rs 6 lakh.
Tata Motors, the largest automaker by revenues, will launch the Tata Altroz, the premium hatchback on January 22 to rival Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz, Toyota Glanza and the Hyundai i20 and priced in the Rs 5-8 lakh range.
Tata Motors will also launch the Tata Nexon EV, India's first all-electric compact SUV. Bookings were opened last month and is expected to be priced between Rs 15-17 lakh.
MG Motor will introduce its new model, the MG Motor ZS EV (electric vehicle), expected to be priced at under Rs 25 lakh.
Apart from these, the new variants and upgrades include luxury car market leader Mercedes-Benz’s CLA and GLE, Swedish luxury car brand Volvo’s XC40 T4 and Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza in petrol version.
Bajaj Auto will launch its Bajaj Chetak electric scooter this month, which was unveiled in November, ataround Rs 1 lakh.
Honda Activa 6G will be launched on January 15. priced at Rs 56,000.
The KTM 390 Adventure is also likely to be launched this month.
