Mercedes-Benz announces a price hike of 5 percent

PUNE: Mercedes-Benz, India’s biggest German luxury car maker, on Thursday announced a price increase of up to 5 per cent across its model range, effective from April 1.

The last time the maker of C Class and E Class popular models had raised prices by 5 per cent was in December 2022.

The Pune-based automaker cited a depreciation of the Indian currency against the Euro and increased input costs, including logistics, as reasons for the hike in prices.

With the latest price hike, Mercedes A-Class limousine and GLA SUV will cost Rs 2 lakh more and the top-end S 350d limousine Rs 7 lakh more and the top-end Mercedes Maybach S 580 Rs 12 lakh more.

“Mercedes-Benz offers the latest model line-up featuring next-gen technology, connected services, luxury appointments and a differentiating customer service. The continuous weakening of the currency combined with increasing input costs have resulted in increased operational cost, necessitating a price adjustment,” Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO, at Mercedes-Benz India, said in a statement.

The company said that these factors have been exerting significant pressure on its overall operational costs.

While Mercedes-Benz India has been absorbing a substantial portion of the previously mentioned costs, the company believes that some of it needs to be passed on to consumers to sustain a profitable business.
