Hyderabad-based Electriq ties up with Yamaha to enter EV mobility market
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad-based electric vehicle manufacturer Electriq has tied up a two-wheeler vehicle leasing arm of Yamaha Motors to supply vehicles for food delivery aggregators.
Moto Business Service India (MBSI) is Yamaha Motors’ leasing company, which operates entry in the 2-Wheeler Asset Management Services space.
It has already deployed 250 of the planned 1250 units of E-scooters and 50 units of E-cycles, which are available on rent for delivery executives of Zepto and Swiggy to facilitate short distance deliveries.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Electriq CEO and Founder Anand Thakur said that the company aims to create a clean, green, and sustainable environment by providing good quality products at affordable rates. Established in November 2021, Only Electriq Solutions Pvt. Ltd currently has two manufacturing plants - Hyderabad and Haryana.

“We have begun operations in Hyderabad and we are planning to expand our model of 2-wheeler asset management services with 5000 EVs to be deployed across cities like Bengaluru, Kolkata, Pune, Delhi and Chennai in partnership with MBSI,” said Mr Anand Thakur.
The removable battery pack of the EVs by Electriq, will soon make daily travel for the delivery executives/partners easy as the exhausted batteries can be swapped with a fully charged one instead of waiting for the EV to be charged again for further travel.
We have a current recorded range of 80-100kms according to the usage of the existing delivery executives who use our EVs and this kind of range could be facilitated in one full charge, said Mr. Anand, adding that the company is looking at battery swapping proposal to the aggregators like Zepto and Swiggy, wherein a delivery partner/executive can visit a hub where a charged battery can be collected to replace the exhausted battery at a nominal charge.
“The proposed module also increases the range automatically up to 160kms without much interruption in travel,” he said.
Electriq EVs are equipped with smart IOT devices that enable tracking of real-time locations of the delivery partners through an IT, web and app-based platform. This technology will help the company in understanding the movement of the delivery partners and helps it identify the locations in which their battery hubs can be opened for further smoothing of operations.
