Lamborghini eying double-digit growth this year

PUNE: Italian luxury sports car maker Lamborghini is shifting gears to get into hybrid and pure electric lane to go green after its stupendous success of having sold its first plug-in hybrid Revuelto super car priced at $600,000 for two years globally, including in the Indian market.

“We have succeeded in getting a higher double-digit number of allocations of the Lamborghini Revuelto model for our Indian millionaire and billionaire clients as we received a phenomenal response,” Sharad Agarwal, head of Lamborghini India told Financial Chronicle. Revuelto was launched for the global market on March 28.

He said after Revuelto, the second hybrid car to be introduced will be the Urus SUV in 2024, the third will be a new hybrid model that will replace Huracan at the end of 2024 and the fourth one will be a pure electric model to be launched in 2028.

He said India is a huge market for Lamborghini which is betting big on its double-digit growth in the ongoing calendar year. “Last calendar year 2022 was a record year for us, selling 92 super cars in India, up 33 per cent over 2021,” Agarwal said, adding that it would better the sales in the ongoing year.

India is the world’s third largest billionaire market and second fastest growing billionaire segment in the Asia-Pacific region, lapping up Lamborghini models even before the price announcements.

Agarwal said the super luxury car market in India went through phases of ups and down in the last decade of 2011 -2020. “But in the last two-three years, we have seen massive growth in the millionaires and billionaires and ultra HNIs fueling the growth of the super luxury car market in India,” he pointed out.

On Thursday, the brand introduced a new SUV called Urus S with a starting price of Rs 4.18 crore at pan India showroom.
