All new Hyundai Verna to strengthen sedan segment
New Delhi: Hyundai, India's second biggest car maker, is targeting to double its sales volume of its 6th new Hyundai Verna sedan even as the champion Honda City, the segment leader and Skoda Slavia have forced the Verna to take the third position in this fiercely competitive midsize sedan segment in the country.
The South Korean automaker on Tuesday introduced the all-new Hyundai Verna which for 17 years had given its rival a run for their money. The new Verna priced between Rs 10.90 lakh and Rs 17.38 lakh for the top-end has already garnered over 8,000 confirmed bookings in the last one month when bookings were opened.
"We are aiming to double our sales targets for the all-new 6th generation Hyundai Verna in the Indian market," Tarun Garg, COO at Hyundai Motor India told media at the launch, adding that it would be possible to achieve the numbers with 30 standard safety features, including 6 airbags as well as 65 advanced safety features like electronic stability control with VSM, hill assist control, all wheel features like EPB, ECM, TPMS and more.
Hyundai Verna skipped to third spot behind Skoda Slavia sedan to sit behind the third spot with annual sales of 19,238 units for 2022. While Slavia had clocked 22,617 units, Honda City, at number one had sold a whopping 38,335 units, commanding 36 per cent market share.
Garg said although the SUVs in the country were ruling the roost for the last two years, the sedan segment was now picking pace and attracting buyers like never before. "The all new Verna is here to disrupt the market and with it the sedan segment in the country would once again emerge stronger," he said, adding that 41 per cent of Verna owners were less than 30 years of age last year.
