Tata Motors to focus on alternative fuel vehicles
HYDERABAD: Tata Motors, one of top automotive companies in India, plans to expand its portfolio of commercial vehicles run by alternative fuel, said the company’s top official.
Speaking at an event organised to launch three pick-up trucks, the Yodha 2.0, Intra V20 bi-fuel and Intra V50, Tata Motors executive director Girish Wagh said, “Transition to zero-emission vehicles is an irreversible trend. The only difference is that this transition in India is going to happen through alternative fuels.”
In urban centres and close-loop operations, he said electric vehicles will lead this transition. “This year we have already launched Ace EV. We are also increasing the range of alternative fuel vehicles,” he said.
"We showcased the one-tonne CNG-powered vehicle today… A few months ago, we launched the CNG-powered medium and heavy commercial vehicle with a range of 1,000 kilometres.. so we are geared up to address this transition towards electrification through alternate fuel," Wagh said.
There are six types of alternative fuels available in India — CNG, Compressed Biogas (CBG), autogas (LPG), ethanol-blended petrol, biodiesel and hydrogen energy.
The company, Wagh said, has been investing around ₹2,000 crore per annum which includes our investment in internal combustion engines, alternate fuel as well as electric vehicles. “We will continue to invest at the same rate to ensure that we keep coming with new vehicles," he said.
