All-New Audi Q5 heading to India
Audi India is working on to bring the second generation of its Q5 SUV in the country.
Expected to launch by this year-end, it was first unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. In the new Q5, there won't be any radical changes to the design. However, the changes would be enough to amplify its beauty and take the competition head-on.
Looks might be deceiving in many cases but not here. The new-gen Audi Q5 unmistakably looks like a shrunken Q7. Underneath the pretty exterior is Volkswagen’s MLB Evo platform, which the new car shares with the new Q7 and the A4. Compared to its predecessor, the all-new Q5 is about 90kg lighter. That will pay dividends in efficiency figures and driving characteristics.
The resemblance with its bigger sibling continues inside the cabin as well. That said, you won’t feel out of place if you are addicted to the Audis of old. The list of creature comforts is extravagant and includes an 8.3-inch infotainment system with handwriting recognition, Audi’s MMI interface (with navigation) paired with a Bang & Olufsen sound system and a 12.3-inch ‘Virtual Cockpit’, which replaces the analogue instrument cluster.
While Audi is offering the Q5 with two diesel and one petrol engine options across different markets, India is likely to get the 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines with 252PS and 190PS power figures respectively. Transmission duties for both the engines are likely to be given to a 7-speed S-Tronic gearbox.
It has been over a year since we caught the new Audi Q5 being tested on Indian roads. Once launched, it will renew its rivalry with the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3 and the Volvo XC60.
