Force Gurkha to be sold in metros
With the purpose of introducing the Gurkha in the metros, Force Motors will now fit the updated 2.2-litre BS-IV engine into it. This is the same power plant that provides firepower to the Force One as well. The Force Gurkha is expected to be launched in the metros in a few months.
The new 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel motor pumps out 141PS of top power at 3800rpm while generating 321Nm of max torque at 1600–2400rpm. Based on the Mercedes OM611 common rail diesel engine, the new power plant will be retuned to generate more torque, which forms a prerequisite for off-road vehicles such as the Gurkha.
Presently, the Gurkha is offered with a 2.6-litre, four-cylinder engine derived from the same OM611 mill. It produces 82PS of max power at 3200rpm and 230Nm of torque at 1800-2000rpm. Apart from the updated engine, the Gurkha is also expected to get some cosmetic modifications in the exterior, while a good number of comfort and convenience features are also expected inside the cabin.
The Gurkha is a strong vehicle and has intelligently put approach (37degree), rampover (29degree) and departure (34degree) angles, besides the mammoth 210mm of ground clearance. With differential locks on both front and rear axles, it gets a snorkel which goes straight up to the roof, making bonnet-high water wading an effortless task.
The off-road machine has won many prestigious titles in the past, with the latest being the 2015 Rain Forest Challenge India in which it secured the top two positions.
Based on the old Mercedes-Benz G-Class platform, the Force Gurkha is currently offered in three variants – 2WD soft top, 4WD soft top and 4WD hard top.
