Changes in the Ford Mustang Facelift
With over nine million units sold till date, the Ford Mustang is one of the most popular muscle cars in the world. The sixth generation Mustang was introduced in the Indian market last year and now its facelift has been revealed in the in the USA. The new car features various cosmetic changes and new features. Let's have a look.
Front
The difference between the facelifted Mustang and the outgoing model is quite apparent from the front. The facelift features a lower, remodelled bonnet and front grille, and the hood vents are placed at a different position. However, the biggest change is that the new Mustang comes with all-LED front lights, including signature lighting, low beams, turn signals, projector high beams and fog lamps.
Side
From the side profile, the new Mustang and the outgoing model look almost identical. However, the facelift is being offered with 12 distinct alloy wheels and three new paint colours. It also features new MagneRide suspensions which offer improved ride control and handling.
Rear
At the rear, the LED taillights and the rear bumper have been revised. While the EcoBoost Mustang now gets dual-tip exhaust, the V8-powered Mustang GT gets a standard quad-tip exhaust. It also features an optional new spoiler and an active valve exhaust system.
Interiors
At first glance, the interiors of the facelifted Mustang don’t seem different at all. However, it features many significant changes. For starters, the new car gets an optional heated steering for the first time ever. It also has an optional 12-inch all-digital LCD screen in the dashboard and a customizable digital instrument cluster. The display can be personalised for Normal, Sport and Track modes. The new Mustang is also available with Ford SYNC Connect with FordPass, which allows the owners to start, lock, unlock and locate their car remotely through a smartphone app. The interiors feel more premium thanks to additions like hand-stitched centre console wrap, padded knee bolsters and aluminium-finished door handles, rings and bezels. It also has a new key fob design and an updated Mustang badge on the instrument panel.
Various new safety features, like Pre-Collision Assist with pedestrian detection, distance alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist and Driver Alert System have also been added.
In terms of mechanicals, while the 3.7-litre V6 petrol engine has been discontinued, the 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost and the 5.0-litre V8 engine have been reworked to produce more power and torque. The manual transmission offered with both the engines have also been reworked and a new, ten-speed automatic transmission is being offered. The new Mustang will go on sale in the USA this year, while the India launch is likely to happen sometime next year.
