Tata drives in Curvv petrol & diesel variants at Rs 9.99 lakh

Pune: After launching the Curvv.EV SUV Coupe last month, Tata Motors on Monday introduced its petrol and diesel version with a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh and going upto to Rs 17.7 lakh for the top end.

The company says that despite its body style making it a niche offering, the Curvv’s pricing, powertrain choices and multiple variants will ensure it takes on all competitors in the midsize SUV segment.

“The introduction of the Curvv further enhances our SUV portfolio as a comprehensive mid-SUV product with multiple powertrains, several first in segment features, a brand-new capable architecture - ATLAS and Level 2 ADAS,” said Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.

The Curvv will compete with the new Citroen Basalt coupe-SUV, while also serving as an alternative to mid-size SUVs such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor and Skoda Kushaq.

The new Curvv comes with three engine options: a 120hp, 170Nm, 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol mill, a 118hp, 1.5-litre diesel unit and Tata’s new 1.2-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol ‘Hyperion’ engine that produces 125hp and 225Nm.

All three engines come with a 6-speed manual as standard, along with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic option. This makes it the only mass-market diesel car in India to offer a dual-clutch auto.

The cabin of the Curvv is carried over from the Nexon and Nexon EV, save for a few changes like a dual-tone burgundy and black theme. The dashboard design and centre console are identical, while the four-spoke steering is from the Harrier and Safari.

The Curvv gets Level 2 ADAS with over 20 safety features and driving aids. The SUV also gets a 360-degree camera, a blind spot monitoring system, 6 airbags, ESP, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold, among other safety features.
