Gurugram-based Tesla Power ties up with Thaihuawei Battery for bike batteries

Free trade treaty spurs Tesla Power\'s partnership with Thaihuawei Battery

Pune: Gurugram-based Tesla Power, a player in the battery industry, has inked a partnership with Thailand’s Thaihuawei Battery Co., to introduce affordable long-life motorcycle batteries in the Indian market.

The Ministry of Trade and Commerce in India has endorsed the Free Trade Treaty (FTT) between India and Thailand, encouraging this strategic alliance between the two firms.

Importing batteries from Thailand, due to the FTT, results in zero-import duty, contrasting with higher costs from China imports.
“Once we reach selling 500,000 batteries in India, we will set up a joint venture company in India with an investment of Rs 150 crore to produce these batteries locally,” Kavinder Khurana, Managing Director at Tesla Power India told Financial Chronicle.

The proposed facility would have the potential to produce around 12 million batteries annually and generate about 5,000 jobs, he pointed out.

“Approximately 1 crore motorcycle batteries are replaced every month in India. If the life of motorcycle batteries can be increased using our innovative technology, it will save the cost for the Indian consumers,” Khurana said.
