Billboard names JioSaavn CEO Rishi Malhotra to its digital power players for 2019
Mumbai: Exemplifying the impact of JioSaavn in the global digital music sphere, the company’s co-founder & CEO, Rishi Malhotra, has been named to the Digital Power Players 2019 list by legacy music publication, Billboard. The latest edition of the Billboard list also includes several other noteworthy names from the global music industry.
Joining industry luminaries from Tencent Music, Snapchat and YouTube for the 2019 list, the recognition represents the growth of global alliances and representation in the music industry, which has traditionally been dominated by artists, record labels and technology developed in the United States and Europe.
Billboard is an American media brand that tracks and publishes trends and developments in the global entertainment space and is renowned for its music charts, such as the Hot 100 and Billboard 200.
Being recognised in Billboard’s latest Digital Power Players list marks an impressive personal achievement for Rishi, who has been leading the JioSaavn team since 2008. Malhotra has been integral in establishing the company as not only the largest music streaming service in South Asia, but also a global leader for innovation and original content and the industry’s bridge to India. Music superstars Marshmello, Nas, Tiësto, and most recently, U2, have all looked to Malthotra’s expertise and JioSaavn’s depth of influence to reach Indian audiences.
Led by Malhotra, JioSaavn launched an in-house music label Artist Originals (AO) in 2017, as a dedicated platform to help South Asian artists amplify their careers and reach global audiences with a unique, multicultural brand of music. Malhotra has also been instrumental in expanding JioSaavn’s catalogue beyond mainstream Indian music to include indie music and engaging podcasts.
Under his strong leadership, the company has become the digital music and audio streaming platform of choice for over a 100 million users with engaging and relevant content available in more than 16 languages.
