Another Telugu rises at global corporation

Hyderabad: Adding yet another feather to the global Telugu cap is Sirisha Voruganti, who has been appointed the CEO and managing director of leading financial services group Lloyds Banking Group’s technology centre in Hyderabad.

Voruganti joins the distinguished list of Telugus like Satya Nadella and Shantanu Narayen, who are at the helm of top companies. But, unlike them, she will be based in the city.

Voruganti is a technology and innovation leader, who earlier worked as the MD and a board member of JCPenney. She was the first woman managing director for JP Morgan Chase in Technology in India and has served as an executive vice president of architecture, data and shared services for Mastercard. She is also known for creating India's first safety device for women's protection.

“I am thrilled to be leading Lloyds Technology Centre during this pivotal phase of Lloyds Banking Group's digital transformation. The new technology centre will allow us to tap into the extraordinary technology talent and expertise in India. It presents an incredible opportunity for brilliant and enthusiastic people looking to enhance their skills to drive innovation for Lloyds Banking Group’s customers,” she said.

In June, Lloyds Banking Group set up its new technology centre at Knowledge City in Hyderabad and said it will initially employ 600 people. It will focus on using technology and digital data and analytics capabilities to drive innovation. The new centre was part of its efforts to expand its digital capabilities. The Group operates the UK’s largest digital bank and has over 20 million digitally-active users.

The Lloyds Technology Centre is part of the Group’s £3 billion strategic investment over the next three years to transform its digital offering. It will initially employ around 600 specialists in technology, data and cyber security roles as it enhances customer experience and builds in-house technical capability.

The technology centre will not provide any banking services.
