Luxury Car Sales Clock Robust Growth

The Pune-based automaker said the strong sales were driven largely by booming demand for its top-end luxury segment and electric vehicles.

Pune: Mercedes-Benz, India’s biggest ever German luxury car maker, said it has posted its highest-ever fiscal sales, retailing 18,928 units in FY 2024-25, clocking a 4 per cent growth over the previous financial year.

The Pune-based automaker said the strong sales were driven largely by booming demand for its top-end luxury segment and electric vehicles.

However, Mercedes sales dipped by 11.8 per cent year-on-year to 4,775 units Q1 2025, mainly due to a slowdown in the entry-level luxury segment.

Its compatriot archrival BMW kicked off 2025 with a strong performance, recording its best-ever Q1 car sales 3,914 units, clocking a growth of 6.36 per cent year-on-year. BMW alone sold 3,764 units, up 7.24 per cent, while Mini contributed 150 units, down 11.76 per cent.

BMW said this achievement marks the highest-ever monthly sales for January, February, and March, setting an aggressive pace for the year ahead. BMW has not revealed its FY25 sales yet.

Jaguar Land Rover, Tata Motors-owned British luxury carmaker, also reported its highest-ever annual sales in its 17-year operations in the country. The company saw a record 6,183 retail sales in FY25, representing 40 per cent year-on-year growth, while wholesale volumes reached 6,266 units, up 39 per cent year-on-year.

Its highest ever quarterly retail and wholesale in Q4 FY25 stood at 1,793 and 1,710 units respectively, clocking 110 per cent and 118 per cent growth over the previous period.

Audi, the German luxury car maker, also reported robust first quarterly 2025 sales at 1,223 units retailed, marking a 17 per cent growth compared to Q1 2024, underscoring the brand’s growing demand in the luxury car market.
