MUMBAI: The government of Maharashtra on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aggreko India to establish a global engineering and manufacturing center in Pune. The agreement, signed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, outlines a Rs 400 crore investment over the next ten years, which is projected to generate approximately 1,000 direct employment opportunities.
The upcoming facility will be located in Fulgaon, Pune district, with construction scheduled to commence later this year. According to government officials, this project will serve as Aggreko’s most significant engineering and manufacturing hub outside of Scotland. The state government has committed to providing administrative assistance, including necessary clearances, registrations, and policy-based incentives, to facilitate the timely execution of the project.
Speaking at the signing ceremony held at the Sahyadri Guest House, Chief Minister Fadnavis highlighted Pune’s growing status as a prominent hub for global capability centers (GCCs). “The state would extend full cooperation through the departments of industry, energy, labour, and mining to streamline the investment process and ensure an optimal operational environment for the company,” he said.
Aggreko India, which specialises in energy and temperature control solutions, plans to utilise the facility to develop high-efficiency energy systems and sustainable technologies. The company aims to improve regional energy efficiency, cut carbon emissions, and support infrastructure that can withstand climate change. It also promised to help Maharashtra meet its climate action goals by expanding eco-friendly heating and cooling systems.
The manufacturing center is also expected to integrate local small, micro, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) into Aggreko’s international supply chain. “This project will give a major boost to the local supply chain, providing micro, small, and medium enterprises with the opportunity to connect with the global supply chain. It will also contribute to strengthening Maharashtra’s capabilities in advanced manufacturing, power equipment production, and precision engineering,” a government official said.
