Telangana: Power shutdowns unavoidable'

Tree trimming, maintenance mainreasons

Though the 400 KV sub-stations located around Greater Hyderabad will get uninterrupted supply from power generation stations in the State, power shut downs at local level in the city will continue for maintenance, tree trimming and other inspection works.

Telangana State Transco officials have successfully inter-connected all the 400 KV sub stations surrounding the city resulting in formation of a ring corridor which allows uninterrupted supply even if generation is stopped at any of the stations in the State.

However, local power shut downs cannot be avoided. Officials have to take shut downs on feeders and distribution transformers to repair the local problem as there is no alternative system at local level.

However, officials said they are strengthening the power infrastructure and the situation will change with 220 KV, 132 KV and 33/11 Kv sub-stations being constructed to overcome the load problem and also to enhance the capacity.

TS Transco Director (Transmission) T Jagath Reddy said the 400 KV sub-stations surrounding the city with each located at Mamidipally, Ghanpur, Malkaram, Gajwel and Shankarpally have been inter-connected.

They have been linked as a ring around the city. They get supply from generating stations at Srisailam, Kothagudem, Vijayawada, Ramagundam, Bhupala-palli and in a few months from now from Japipur in Adilabad. The 765 KV War-dha-Nizamabad-Mahesh-waram project will also be connected.

"We have spent about Rs 200 crore on forming the ring of sub-stations and mainly laid a line connecting Mamidipalli-Shankar-palli sub-stations. Even if power generation stops at any generating station, supply to the city can be continued from one of the five 400 KV sub-stations which would be receiving supply from other generating stations. This facility has been done after TRS government came into office," Jagath Reddy said.
