Woman naxal killed in fight with forces
Raipur: A woman Naxal commander was on Monday morning gunned down in an encounter with security forces in a jungle in Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra border, police said.
Acting on a tip off on presence of a group of armed guerrillas in Sendra forest housing Indravati National Park in Chhattisgarh’s south Bastar district of Bijapur, a joint search party of security personnel from Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra launched a combing operation in the area, Bastar inspector general police S.R.P Kalluri said.
“A combat party surreptitiously entered Gadchiroli in Maharashtra and entered Indravati National Park along with a team of security personnel led by Gadchhiroli ASP Manjunath Singh to launch a joint operation in Sendra forest. Later, the joint search party had a face-off with Naxals in the forest.
Security forces recovered body of a woman Naxal in uniform along with an INSAS rifle and five magazines at the encounter site”, Mr Kalluri said. The deceased Naxal has been identified as Local Operation Squad commander of National Park Area Committee of Maoists, Mangi, who carried a bounty of Rs five lakh on her head.
