A live unfolding of world of Alathur Brothers
CHENNAI: A striking, well illustrated pictorial biography of the great Alathur Brothers — V. Sivasubramania Iyer and S. Srinivasa Iyer, — written by Lakshmi Devnath, well known researcher and writer in the field of Carnatic music and religion, has come as a rich addition for ‘raskias’ and general public alike to know about and understanding of the lives of the giants in Carnatic music.
This one the Alathur duo, is the latest in the ‘Pictures of Melody’ series initiated by Lakshmi Devnath and has been aptly offered as a ‘Centenary Special-2016’, to help perpetuate the memory of the two great Carnatic music masters.
As in the introduction to this pictorial biography — both in black and white and in colour the author says, “this is the story of two brilliant sons of Carnatic music. One was from Alathur and the other was from Angarai. They were not remotely related to each other, but music created a beautiful bond between them.”
There cannot be a better testament to how art, particularly music, unifies.
