Karnataka: Public Schools in Gram Panchayats in 3 Years, Says DK Shivakumar

BENGALURU: Stating that his government is committed to initiate steps to check migration of people from rural areas to cities to get better education for their children, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Friday said that public schools would be opened in 6,600 gram panchayats of the State in the coming years in collaboration with corporate companies such as Wipro, Infosys among others while 2,000 public schools would be constructed in the three years.

Addressing the gathering at the Corporate Social Responsibility Conference here, Shivakumar said he discussed with the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on opening a public school for every two gram panchayats and the State Government would provide with the required land for setting up of a public school.

The DyCM stated that corporate companies such as Wipro, Infosys among others have evinced interest in investing on construction of public schools and observed that the role of corporates had a vital role in providing education and assured all cooperation from the State Government.

“A major reason for the migration of the people from rural to urban areas is for education and employment,” he pointed out and said about 70,000 people from his constituency Kanakapura have migrated to Bengaluru city. To stop migration of people to cities, Shivakumar observed “If migration is not stopped then it would be impossible to give basic amenities in cities.”

Calling upon corporate houses and the business sector to join hands with the State Government in building society, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said “A better future can only be created when entrepreneurs, non-governmental organisations and the government work in tandem.”

He assured necessary assistance from the government for the growth and progress of the industrial sector and said “The Government has implemented five guarantee schemes with an aim of reducing the gap between the rich and poor on the principle of Universal Basic Income.”

He claimed that the implementation of 5-schemes such as free power, rice free of cost for BPL card holders, free travel for women in State run buses among others have given new enthusiasm and strength to the economy and stated that “all guarantees of the State Government are helpful to eradicate child labour.”

Ministers M B Pail, M C Sudhakar and Sharanprakash Patil were present.
