Set up UoH satellite campus in Karimnagar or Warangal: Vinod urges Centre

HYDERABAD: Senior BRS leader and former MP B. Vinod Kumar on Tuesday urged the Centre to establish a satellite campus of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) in Karimnagar or Warangal as well as provide domicile quota for students of the state welfare schools. He said he had received several representations making the demand, and forwarded them to Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

In his letter to Pradhan, Vinod pointed out that Pondicherry University provides a domicile quota for the students of Puducherry. The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, provides 25 per cent domicile reservations for local students. The Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, had a model of deprivation points for the backward districts, he said.

"Hence, we request you kindly take up the issue with the Centre and ensure the setting up of the UoH satellite campus (off-campus) in Karimnagar or Warangal, which can be accessible to the rural and marginalised students of Telangana and provide a domicile quota for the students from Telangana state in various courses as there is high demand for quality higher education from the marginalised and poor students, who have completed their secondary education in social welfare residential schools and gurukuls. The Telangana government will provide all necessary support for establishing the satellite campus," Vinod said.
