IIT-H, Kathmandu university join hands for joint PhD

HYDERABAD: IIT Hyderabad (IITH) and Kathmandu University (KU) signed a MoU to offer a joint doctoral programme (JDP) at the PhD level in all areas of research, to develop successful academic and research collaborations.

The MoU was signed during the recent visit of the delegation from the Hyderabad-based institute, where Kathmandu University Vice Chancellor Prof. Bhola Thapa and Prof. B.S. Murty, Director, IITH, signed the agreement.

The JDP programme will provide opportunities for students from India and Nepal to work in areas of science, technology and design, and medical innovations. Students admitted to the JDP at KU will have an opportunity to spend up to one year at IITH, supported by an IITH scholarship during their stay here, and vice versa.

IITH will host 10 KU BTech final-year students from the August 2023 cycle to provide them with research exposure.

At the ceremony, Prof. Thapa said there were many of opportunities for both the institutes to work jointly to promote faculty exchange, joint research programmes, and international internships. ôTogether we can do much more for us. Let’s march together to become Vishwaguru,” he said.

Prof. said that the signing of the MoU showcased the potential for fostering regional development and empowering students as catalysts of positive change.
