Mahboobia primary school needs more classrooms

HYDERABAD: The primary section of Mahboobia Girls Government School, which opened with 370 students on Monday, is facing a severe shortage of classrooms.

With another 60 students admitted already in the new academic session, and
another 40 expected to join by the month-end, the problem is further compounded as there are only nine rooms available against a minimum
requirement of 12, as per the class divisions.

The shortage of classrooms, which is to be around 15 for extracurricular
activities taken into account is also forcing students to take up activities in the open.

However, the school management was tight-lipped when questioned on the
issue.

A teacher, T. Bhavani, said: “Most of the admissions are dropouts from
private schools in surrounding areas. These students are from the middle class
and if given a good education, they will become best in society.”

Principal P. Sudha Rani said, “The staff here are passionate about giving the
best to the students. Our school is a pilot project for ‘Mana Basti, Mana
Badi’. New admissions are going on, we interact with the parents of each
student and we will see that these students are regular to the school.”

She said, “During the interaction with parents, we came to know that
students absent themselves because parents want their children to nanny their
younger siblings or take care of the elderly.”
