Hyderabad: Students from Hyderabad did well in the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) results for both Class 12 (ISC) and Class 10 (ICSE) that were announced on Sunday.
Many schools achieved a pass percentage of 100, with toppers celebrating almost-perfect scores in most subjects, especially languages, mathematics and science.
Sarthak Lamba, an ICSE topper from the city scored a staggering 99 per cent and his family is over the moon with his performance. He scored 100 in every subject, except English and general science, losing one mark.
Lamba, who was confident of doing well, says he, however, did not expect to score 99 per cent. “This was unexpected but great news. Mathematics has always been my first love and I guess it will continue to be. I’ve taken up math, physics and chemistry for the next two years and I aspire to be an aeronautical engineer someday, but it might change along the way too, so we'll wait and see,” Lamba said.
Lamba said he studied not for more than two hours a day, and he is also pursuing Grade-4 piano from Trinity College in London. He is also an avid tennis enthusiast and is undergoing training in it.
Siri Chandana, who scored 98 per cent on her boards, also called for balance in life. She said she plays badminton and is a dancer.
“While I’m someone who believes in balance between exams and extracurriculars, I’m glad I was able to find time between them all. I did work towards getting such a score and it’s humbling to have achieved it,” she said.
An analysis of the results showed that the southern and western states fared better than other parts of the country, with western states logging a 99.81 pass percentage in ICSE results, followed by southern states, at 99.69. In ISC results, southern states topped with a 99.2 pass percentage.
The highest scores in the exams were 99.75 per cent in ICSE and 99.80 per cent in ISC.
The data also showed that girls outdid boys, registering pass percentages of 99.21, against boys’ 98.71, for Class 10 and 98.01 per cent, against boys’ 95.96 per cent for Class 12.
This was despite fewer girls having appeared for the board exams, 53.92 per cent of the candidates were boys.
The Class 10 final exams were held from February 27 to March 29, while the Class 12 exams were held from February 13 to March 31.
Of the 2.5 lakh candidates who appeared for board exams, 96.93 per cent of ISC students and 98.94 per cent of ICSE students cleared the exams.
The results were made available on cisce.org and results.cisce.org.
Students who are not happy with their results can apply for re-checking till May 21 through the board websites or schools. Students, irrespective of their class, have to pay ₹1,000 per paper.
