Jagan Seeks Global Standards for Teaching in Schools, Colleges

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has said global standards must be ensured for teaching in schools and for intermediate education in AP.

Chairing a high-level meeting on education with senior officials here on Monday, the Chief Minister directed the officials to undertake an extensive study on how the global standards could be achieved for the state’s government education sector and how students can have better employment opportunities.

The CM was responding to a proposal to introduce the International Baccalaureate curriculum that encourages creativity and critical thinking.

He said if students could pursue such high quality education, their Class X and Intermediate pass certificates would be acceptable at the global level and help them pursue higher education or find employment anywhere in the world.

Education officials should ensure that students are exposed to the advancements in science and technology, economy, business etc so that they would ably compete in the global market. Capacity building for teachers is important, so that they could adapt to the global standards of teaching, he said.

Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that the previous Telugu Desam government failed to pay proper attention to ensuring quality education to the students. After that, we introduced reforms in the education system to help the students avail opportunities for higher education and employment at the global level. “We are making efforts to help students learn subjects easily and develop creativity through a series of reforms in the education system.”

He said the education system must be reformed in a way it becomes job-oriented. Whatever students learn should be useful in their life.

As for higher education, the CM called for roping in prominent global institutions to help the students in AP to learn artificial intelligence and other aspects and introduce several courses from abroad as a pilot project initially. Based on their success, these could be taken up on a full-scale implementation.
