HYDERABAD: Hyderabad students Vavilala Chidvilas Reddy and Nayakanti Naga Bhavya Sree topped the national ranks in the men and women streams of the IIT-JEE Advanced, results of which were declared on Sunday.
Chidvilas Reddy scored 341 out of 360 marks. Other toppers from Hyderabad were Ramesh Surya Theja, who secured the second rank, followed by Rishi Kalra (Roorkee zone). Raghav Goyal (Roorkee), Addagada Venkata Sivaram (Hyd), Prabhav Khandelwal (Delhi), Bikkina Abhinav Chowdhary (Hyd), Malay Kedia (Delhi), Nagireddy Balaaji Reddy (Hyd) and Yankanti Pani Venkata Maneedhar Reddy (Hyd), completed the top 10 ranks.
Bhavya Sree secured the 56th rank overall with 298 marks.
Of the 1,80,372 candidates who appeared for both papers in IIT-JEE Advanced, for entrance into IITs, 43,773 qualified, including 7,509 women, 13 foreign candidates and 155 overseas citizens of India.
With 10,432, the maximum number of qualifiers belonged to Hyderabad zone, followed by 9,290 (IIT Delhi zone) and 7,957 (IIT Bombay zone).
The top 500 ranks, zone-wise, was likewise dominated by the IIT-Hyderabad zone at 174, followed by Delhi 120, Bombay 100, Roorkee 46, Kharagpur 37, Kanpur 16 and Guwahati 4.
The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati released the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced results as well as the answer key Sunday morning. Candidates can check their result on the official website at IIT JEE at jeeadv.ac.in.
The cut-off percentage for common rank list (CRL) for each subject (paper 1+2) was 6.83 per cent while the aggregate was 23.89 per cent.
Explaining the criteria for inclusion in the rank list, a senior IIT Guwahati official explained that the aggregate would be calculated as the sum of marks obtained in mathematics, physics and chemistry. Candidates have to satisfy the subject-wise as well as aggregate qualifying marks to be included in a rank list.
This year, there is less percentage of negative marking and more questions without penalty. This gave confidence to students to attempt more questions, resulting in high cut-off this year, the official explained.
