VIJAYAWADA: National Commission for Minorities (NCM) adviser M. Arshad Ayub Khan has written to AP chief secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy, suggesting that appropriate measures be taken to implement Urdu as the second official language in Andhra Pradesh.
He underlined that there are no Urdu translators in majority of the government departments, which is hampering documentation in Urdu. Demanding that Urdu translators be appointed in all departments, he pointed out that though department display boards are there in Telugu and English languages, Urdu language is missing from them.
Arshad Ayub sought that Urdu signage be included along with Telugu and English in boards of government offices across the state.
Suggesting inclusion of Urdu along with Telugu in the AP state government’s emblem, he hoped AP government will initiate measures for implementing Urdu as second official language in letter and spirit.
