NEET 2024: 6-Month Preparation Tips by Experts
Conquering NEET 2024 within six months may prove daunting for medical aspirants due to the exam's difficulty and fierce competition. Nevertheless, a meticulous approach and resolute determination can pave the way for candidates to conquer this assessment seamlessly. To aid students in their journey, here is a comprehensive guide that provides a structured approach to preparing for this challenging exam.
Mastering Biology
Biology, which encompasses Botany and Zoology, holds the key to securing up to 50% of the total marks in NEET, making it a crucial subject to master. While rote learning plays a pivotal role here, don't overlook the significance of concept, application and interpretation of the NCERT passages.
A Well-Structured Plan:
â- Begin with a thorough reading and revision of the NCERT biology book.
â- Approach statement-based questions with an open mind; they may not be as difficult as they seem. They need to be read carefully.
â- Fact-based chapters, like Biological Classification, Morphology of Flowering Plants, Animal Kingdom and Anatomy of Flowering Plants, demand rote learning.
Important Chapters in Biology:
1 Biotechnology: Principles and Processes 6 Principles of Inheritance and Variation
2 Molecular Basis of Inheritance 7 Biomolecules
3 Human Reproduction 8 Cell: The Unit of Life
4 Sexual Reproduction in Flowering Plants 9 Evolution
5 Animal Kingdom 10 Morphology of Flowering Plants
Mastering Chemistry
To excel in Chemistry, categorise topics based on their difficulty level and allocate your attention accordingly.
A Tried-and-Tested Approach:
â- Begin with a meticulous study of the NCERT book.
â- Survey the previous-year JEE questions asked in “Qualitative Analysis”, and thoroughly comprehend the basics and theories of the other chapters in NEET to prepare Principles Related to Practical Chemistry.
â- Create a formula chart for easy reference.
â- Pay attention to the experiments conducted in the school laboratory.
Important Chapters in Chemistry:
1 Thermodynamics 6 Organic Chemistry: Some Basic Principles and Techniques
2 Equilibrium 7 Electrochemistry
3 Alcohols, Phenols, and Ethers 8 Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure
4 Chemical Kinetics 9 Coordination Compounds
5 Aldehydes, Ketones, and Carboxylic Acids 10 Principles Related to Practical Chemistry
Mastering Physics
Physics demands a methodical approach to overcome its challenges.
Strategy for Physics:
â- Arrange the topics according to their weightage.
â- Select appropriate study materials, including NCERT, exemplars, and Concepts of Physics by H. C. Verma (Vol. I & II).
â- Grasp the fundamental ideas and concepts before memorising the formulas.
â- Pay attention to the experiments carried out in the school laboratory and follow the NCERT lab manual for some of the experiments mentioned in the newly added chapter Experimental Skills. Questions from this chapter will test your knowledge of theories discussed in the other chapters.
Important Chapters in Physics:
1 Electromagnetism 4 Mechanics
2 Modern Physics 5 Semiconductor Devices
3 Geometrical Optics 6 Experimental Skills
A Few General Guidelines
Being organised:
Organise your study schedule into dedicated time slots for each subject. Allocate additional time to the more challenging subjects and topics, while ensuring ample time for revision and regular tests. Establish pragmatic daily, weekly, and monthly study objectives. Monitor your progress and adapt your goals as necessary to stay on track.
Key Resources:
NCERT books hold immense importance, shaping over 90% of NEET questions. After reviewing the past question papers, annotate the key parts in your books from where questions have been frequently asked. For the older portions in the revised syllabus, refer to NEET question papers up to 15 years back. Visual tools aid in grasping intricate ideas; employ flow charts and formula sheets. Opt for official NEET mock test papers, NCERT-based workbooks and other reliable sources to grasp the exam's structure and content. Stick to trusted sources but refrain from multiple references on one topic.
Regular Tests:
Regularly engage yourself in full-length mock tests to develop the right mindset for the exam, and improve your speed and accuracy. Solve previous-year questions and incorporate concepts from different chapters in your practice sessions. While taking a mock test, create an environment that closely resembles the actual exam. Find a quiet space, sit upright as you would in the exam hall, and use a timer to monitor your progress. By regularly attempting mock tests you can also devise your own time management strategy for the final exam.
Regular Revision:
To cover the entire NEET syllabus in six months, you need a structured revision plan. Rank chapters by difficulty, identifying weak areas to prioritise during revision. Focus on these sections to strengthen understanding and preparation.
Being Optimistic and Healthy:
Above all, staying positive and striking a balance between relentless study schedules and personal well-being are indispensable.
Following these tips will undeniably elevate your performance and bolster the likelihood of attaining your target score. Remember, consistent practice and thorough subject proficiency, coupled with robust well-being, constitute the essential elements for success in this test.
